965 miles in an Alex wheelchair

In England Mary Laver travelled an impressive 965 miles (1500 km) in an Alex wheelchair, making a 25 day journey from South- to North-England. Mary’s goal: to get in the Guinness Book of Records and raise money for charities along the way.

Thanks to her remarkable perseverance, strength of will and the support of a team of enthusiastic and committed volunteers, the frail woman (62) with rheumatoid arthritis crossed the finishing line on the 12^th of August in John o’Groats.

Mary has become attached to the one Alex she used on her exceptional journey. ‘Alex never, in the whole 965 miles let me down.’ The wheelchair passed the extreme long term performance test without a flaw, except a justifiable wheel puncture. 

Mary Laver is already hatching plans for new journeys: a pilgrimage, the Himalaya… Meanwhile she is already putting together a ‘small’ 400 mile trip in Ireland. What other challenges does Mary have in mind for Alex, and what about others?
